Terms

Last updated 24 October 2026

The short version

  • These terms cover hideroom.app and the launch list now, and the Hideroom app once it’s released.
  • Guides are general information, not legal, financial or security advice for your situation.
  • The launch list sends one email to say you’re on it and one when Hideroom launches on your phone, then deletes your address.
  • In the app, what you keep is yours and we can’t see it. Only your pattern or your recovery phrase can open a room, so keep your phrase safe.
  • Plans will be sold by Apple (and Google, later). Ending a plan never locks away what you’ve stored, and export stays free.
  • These terms, including what Lifetime means, are subject to a solicitor’s review before the app launches.

1. Who we are

Hideroom and hideroom.app are run by Stratus Research Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (“we”, “us”). Our company number is 09447561 and our registered office is 1 Beauchamp Court, 10 Victors Way, Barnet, Hertfordshire, EN5 5TZ, United Kingdom. You can reach us at hello@hideroom.app.

By using this website, joining the launch list or using the Hideroom app, you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use them.

2. The website

Our guides are general information to help you understand your options. They aren’t legal, financial or security advice for your situation, and they don’t replace official guidance (for example, from the office that issued your passport). We check every guide against its sources and correct mistakes quickly; our editorial policy says how.

The words, pictures and design on this site, and the Hideroom name and logo, belong to us. You’re welcome to quote and link to our pages with credit. Please don’t copy whole pages or present our work as your own.

3. The launch list

If you join the launch list, we’ll send one email to say you’re on it and, when Hideroom launches on the phone you chose, one launch email. Then we delete your address. You can remove it sooner from the link in any email. Our privacy policy explains exactly what we keep and for how long.

4. The Hideroom app

These parts take effect when the app is released, and are checked again before it’s submitted to the App Store.

  • What you keep is yours. Everything in a room is encrypted on your phone with keys we never have. We can’t see, scan or recover it.
  • Your pattern and recovery phrase are your responsibility. Nobody, including us, can open a room without its pattern or its recovery phrase. If you forget both, the room can’t be opened. That’s the point of real encryption, and it’s why we ask you to write the phrase down and keep it away from your phone.
  • Backups live in your own iCloud (Google Drive on Android). They depend on those services and your storage with them.
  • Apple’s standard licence agreement for apps applies alongside these terms when you get Hideroom from the App Store.

5. Plans and payments

Plans will be sold and billed by Apple (and by Google, once Android is out). Free trials, cancellation and refunds follow the store’s own rules, and you manage them in your Apple Account or Google account.

Ending a plan never locks away anything you’ve already stored, and export stays free on every plan. You can always view, back up and export what’s in your rooms. The free plan’s allowance can change for things you add in future; anything you’ve already stored stays viewable, backed up and exportable.

What “Lifetime” means. Lifetime means Pro on every phone you move Hideroom to, for as long as we offer Hideroom, and it’s never turned into a subscription. If we ever stop offering Hideroom, the app keeps working for what you’ve stored, export stays free, and the published recovery tool keeps your backups readable.

6. Acceptable use

Hideroom can’t see what’s in your rooms, so it can’t scan them or hand them over. Using Hideroom for illegal material is against our terms.

You also agree not to try to break, overload or misuse this website or the launch list, for example by signing up other people’s addresses or sending automated requests.

7. Our responsibility to you

Nothing in these terms limits the rights you have under UK consumer law, including the Consumer Rights Act 2015 for digital content.

Beyond those rights, we aren’t responsible for losses we couldn’t reasonably have foreseen, or for problems caused by services we don’t control, such as your phone’s operating system, iCloud or Google Drive.

8. Changes, law and contact

When these terms change, we update the date at the top and add a line to the change log below. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales can hear any dispute, though you can also use the courts where you live in the UK.

Questions about these terms: hello@hideroom.app.
