Video vault app for iPhone
A private vault for your videos.
Long videos play straight from their encrypted file, with sound and scrubbing. Full quality by default, backed up to your own iCloud, and opened only by you.

Hideroom is a video vault app, coming to iPhone first and Android next. Every video you add is encrypted on your phone before anything else happens, kept at full quality with its sound, and played straight from the encrypted file, so a readable copy is never left lying on the phone. Each room is backed up to your own private iCloud and checked, and only your pattern on this phone, or the room’s recovery phrase, can open it.
How it works
- 1
Add your videos
Import from Photos through Apple’s private picker, which keeps the date taken, the order and the sound. Or film with Hideroom’s own camera, and the video never touches your camera roll.
- 2
Locked as it comes in
Each video is encrypted on the phone with a key of its own, in 1 MiB pieces, before it’s saved. Once it’s encrypted and checked, Hideroom offers to remove the original from Photos.
- 3
Play it straight from the encrypted file
Videos stream through the phone’s own decryption, with sound and scrubbing. Jumping ahead decrypts only the piece you land on, and no decrypted copy is ever written to a temporary file.
- 4
Backed up in parts, and checked
Big videos go to your own iCloud in 64 MiB parts, so a dropped connection costs one part, not the whole video. Every upload is read back and checked before the room says it’s backed up.
What it doesn’t do
- It isn’t out yet. Hideroom is coming to iPhone first, with Android next.
- It isn’t made for watching on a TV. With the capture lock on (it’s free), Hideroom locks the moment your screen is recorded or mirrored.
- A video you export is an ordinary copy again, outside Hideroom’s protection. The app says so before it goes.
- Anything that wasn’t backed up yet can’t come back if the phone is lost. Each room shows when its backup was last checked.
Where this comes from
The security page explains how each video is locked, played and backed up, and How it works follows one photo through the same steps.
Questions people ask
Is there a limit on how long a video can be?
No. Free keeps 10 videos of any length, and Pro has no limit on how many. Hideroom is being built to import and play a 2 GB video smoothly on a real iPhone.
Does Hideroom keep the quality and the sound?
Yes. Videos are kept at full quality by default, with their sound, the date they were taken and their order.
Where is the backup, and who can open it?
In your own private iCloud, encrypted before it leaves the phone. Hideroom never holds it, and a room opens only with your pattern on this phone, or with its recovery phrase.
Can I get a video back out?
Yes. Export is free on every plan. An exported copy leaves Hideroom’s protection, so the app asks before it goes.
